Welcome to our plot!

I'm Hazel, and in Nov 2006 my friend Jane and I took on a half plot at Hill Allotments, Sutton Coldfield - we want the satisfaction of growing and eating our own fruit and veg, and to improve our diet (and fitness!).

This is the story of what happened next...........

Show Time!

I have not been idle at the Hill this last couple of weeks - the lack of blog updates is simply that there are only a finite ways to say 'I have been to the plot and picked a bag of french beans and an overwhelming number of courgette'.

Today, however, it is the Annual Hill Show so there will be plenty of photos to take and tales to tell when I get back.

I do have one tale of woe already, though - I've been to pick my entries this morning, and the lettuces which had been just nice and plump on Friday, are now 2' tall with a flower spike.

I'm sure that this isn't an omen!

  1. Know you are busy so just to say hope it went well.

  2. You have to go out picking all the time this time of year. I'm sure I pick every single courgette every day... yet there are always those I miss and turn into marrows. Enjoy it while it lasts.

  4. It's hard to keep up isn't it? Think back to those grey days in spring when you sowed the seeds with hope - now you are under a mound of food; there are worse ways to go! We have compulsary runner beans every day!

  6. Haven't seen you for ages Hazel, and missing chatting with you. Your plot looks OK, so are you sneaking up at night? Hope all is OK.

  7. Thanks everyone - long overdue update now posted.

    In short, the show went well, thank you, Bilbo, Nic & Matron;
    I must put a pic up of 'the four that got away', Matron!;
    Still marvel at how a seed the size of your thumbnail produces a massive plant plus all-you-can-eat courgettes just a couple of months later, Flum;
    Glad that we've now caught up, Chris.
