Welcome to our plot!

I'm Hazel, and in Nov 2006 my friend Jane and I took on a half plot at Hill Allotments, Sutton Coldfield - we want the satisfaction of growing and eating our own fruit and veg, and to improve our diet (and fitness!).

This is the story of what happened next...........

Well, Whaddya Know!

A rain free evening meant that I finished off making bed a1 - hurrah!

I moved ten bags of horse manure up to the bed from beside the skip - although I didn't fill the bed (this will be next year's potatoes so it will welcome plenty of muck) as I was not in 'allotment' clothes & didn't want to come home reeking.

Whilst putting the tools away I saw the plot judging results on the notice board - & there we are!

'Most improved plot' - how brilliant is that?!

  1. Many, many congratulations. Well deserved I am sure given how much hard work you obviously put in every week.

Tell me though (small brain, confused Hobbit) - how can Dave get 236 marks for "Best Full Plot" but then it becomes 177.5 points for Best B'ham plot . . . ???

  2. Well done you. I'm not surprised though, you work so hard on it.

I think you woz dun though, you should have been awarded the best plot in Birmingham because I'm sure it is.

  3. You are indeed a most observant Hobbit!

There was a note on the bottom of the notice (which I've chopped off for the sake of neatness) which said words to the effect that the Birmingham judging and our own site judging took place two weeks apart (although to the same criteria), so the points for the two judgings vary.

You'll also see that Julie and Dave swap places for our own judging - it looks like he picked up extra points compared to Julie in those two weeks.

  4. It's still a work in progress, Clare - this time next year, and all that...!

  5. All that woodwork has paid off! It certainly makes the plot look neat and planned. (Mine looks like it 'happened'.)

  7. The funny thing is that you always put lots into your plot, just sometimes it shows up more obviously than others!

Of course I'm also pleased about is the number of people who have come up this year and asked about the beds, and then have done something similar on their plots...
