...and tonight's gastronomic feast included a salad with lettuce, tomato, radish, cucumber, spring onion, peas, french beans with new potatoes - all from the plot. Yum!
It's coming to the time of year for evaluation of what's worked well & what to do more (or less) of next time round & of course, there's plenty of things to think about.
I have to say that cucumber will be on the 'must do' list for sure - this surprises me a bit, but the two plants growing have been no trouble at all & the cucumbers taste so much better than shop bought!
Are they Marketmore Hazel? I've got a few of these banged into gaps and they are incredible. I've grown them before, several years ago now, but without the same success. We have given some away, I've got 3 in the fridge and still they are coming. Fortunately we both love cuke.
ReplyDeleteHi I've grown cucumbers this year for the first time (Marketmore) and although I only have one plant left in a pot it keeps on going. A few weeks ago it looked in dire straights but I seem to have rescued it and we had another cuke today. I will definitely have another go next year.
ReplyDeleteIt's 'burpless tasty green f1', people, and seriously recommended! Two outdoor plants are just about right for me (although maybe 2 early and 2 late for next year...?)
ReplyDeleteI would not have thought of putting cucumbers on the list of 'must grow veg' that outshine their commercial counterparts, but - boy - so exquisit in taste that they are right up there with sun-warmed tomatoes & earthy new potatoes for taste...
