Welcome to our plot!

I'm Hazel, and in Nov 2006 my friend Jane and I took on a half plot at Hill Allotments, Sutton Coldfield - we want the satisfaction of growing and eating our own fruit and veg, and to improve our diet (and fitness!).

This is the story of what happened next...........

Chutney Time!

On the day of the Show, I ran into Sheila (at the top) - she entered a whole heap of produce but couldn't stay until the judging finished. She had high hopes for her cougette chutney, saying it was the best that she'd ever made.

"Do take the jar," she invited, "I'll not be here to collect it." I didn't need asking twice, I must say - & very, very fine it is too.

Of course, I need to have enough courgettes to make courgette chutney, so tonight I went with mum to the Hill to see what has been growing over the last few days.

Whilst looking out for COURGETTES (all green & golden yellow), I picked a CUCUMBER (tasty burpless) & picked an enormous quantity of RUNNER BEANS (essex bb & reg next plot), & FRENCH BEANS (barlotti jody).

So now, I think I have enough for both runner bean and courgette chutney - & this weekend I'll be putting my pinny on & getting the maslin pan out...

  2. Oooh, must have another chutney session. I've just swapped a big bag (11 lb) of John Downey crab apples for some eggs so I'm currently dripping apple jelly. When the jam pan's free I'm hoping to chutnify more courgettes. Love the stuff!

Plumsauce sounds rather good, Dinzie our plum season just ending here, though.

Your girl's are doing you proud, Flum - I don't know of any 'home' chickens round here, more's the pity...
