Welcome to our plot!

I'm Hazel, and in Nov 2006 my friend Jane and I took on a half plot at Hill Allotments, Sutton Coldfield - we want the satisfaction of growing and eating our own fruit and veg, and to improve our diet (and fitness!).

This is the story of what happened next...........

Showing Off!

Well I’ve had fun tonight!

Cousin Wendy came up for the day from to visit mum today with the twins, so I won out by being invited along for tea, including mum’s delicious mandarin cheesecake (secret recipe). Hurrah!

We then all piled into the car & went to the Hill. Wendy’s a keen grower – her dad had an allotment some years ago – & is growing French beans & tomatoes in her garden this year, & would grow more if she had the space.

We had a good mooch round the plot, discussing growing methods, raised beds & compost bins then I picked them a lettuce, an armful of rhubarb & also sent them away with a bottle of rhubarb wine.

I must be doing something right as the girls pronounced the allotment ‘cool’. High praise indeed!

  1. Definitely high praise. The twins look to be of an age where they would not pronounce you "cool" unless they meant it.

  2. I'm one of the twins (Emma) and Hazel is definitley cool! Really nice time looking round your allotment. Hope to see you again soon.

P.S - 'I' will enjoy the Rhubarb Wine, when its matured. We are using some of the Rhubarb you gave us, not all of it - that would be one big pie! And making Rhubarb and Apple Crumble. x

  3. Hazel is well cool!
(The phrase 'cool' was invented before I was born - and we all know how long ago THAT is!)

  4. I think that I was last 'cool' about 20 years ago, so I'm well pleased!

Glad you are all enjoying the rhubarb - and if you ask nicely, girls, maybe you can have just a taste of the wine in a couple of months when it's ready to open.... shh!
