Welcome to our plot!

I'm Hazel, and in Nov 2006 my friend Jane and I took on a half plot at Hill Allotments, Sutton Coldfield - we want the satisfaction of growing and eating our own fruit and veg, and to improve our diet (and fitness!).

This is the story of what happened next...........

Sharing Squash...

Nipped to the Hill late afternoon on my way to a meeting with a colleague - I was going to take him some FRENCH BEANS (purple giant), but there weren't really enough, so I picked just a few for me along with some RUNNER BEANS (essex bb & reg-next plot) & FRENCH BEANS (barlotti jody & early warwick) along with a couple of COURGETTE (golden yellow & all green bush).

I didn't go to my meeting empty handed, though, I took John-the-accountant a beautiful bright orange SQUASH (red kuri). The fruit are plentiful - about eight good sized ones on each of the two plants - & are about 8" in diameter.

I didn't have a bag with me so it did form rather a conversation piece as it sat on the table between us...

  1. Aren't those red Kuri squashes the best. We inherited ours (they were in the garden when we came here) but I keep seeds every year and grow about 4 plants. they make a brilliant curried pumpkin and sweetcorn soup.
